Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. While renewing my Corolla Altis insurance policy, I plan to change the insurer. Can the NCB be transferred from the old insurer or will it lapse?

You can transfer your No-Claim Bonus from the old insurer to the new one. At the time of renewal, you need to provide proof about the previous NCB (previous insurance copy is sufficient) to get the NCB transferred.

2. I understand that I will get a discount on my Altis insurance premium if I install an anti-theft device. How much discount can I get?

Installing an anti-theft device decreases the risk and hence entitles you to discount on your car insurance premium. You can get a discount of 2.5% of the own damage premium, subject to a maximum of 500 rupees. Please note that the discount is applicable only if the anti-theft device is approved by ARAI (Automobile Research Association of India).

3. I purchased third-party liability insurance for my car. I met with an accident where the other car was slightly damaged but my car was severely damaged. How would claims be settled?

Third-party liability insurance only covers damage to a third party vehicle or injuries to a third party. Any damage to your vehicle is not covered by liability insurance. Hence, you cannot make a claim. It is advisable to buy a comprehensive insurance policy to get complete coverage.

4. I had parked my car in the garage and found that the garage was flooded due to rains. I started my car to take it out but the car engine was stalled. Can I claim for insurance?

Damage to the engine, in this case, is a consequential action. It is the consequence of your action of starting the car even though there was water. Consequential claims are excluded from the policy and hence your claim will be denied. In such a situation, you must call for assistance to get the car towed for repair.
