For minimizing the financial loss to the passengers from accidents and other incidents, Railways will introduce a travel insurance scheme shortly.
Currently, there are railways claims tribunals which provide compensation in case of mishaps. One can claim compensation in case of accidents. Now we are offering additional service of insurance,” Railway Board Chairman A K Mital said.
However, according to him, this new insurance plan will be optional and passengers will get the option to choose at the time of booking.
Modalities are being worked out and very soon they will come out with a travel insurance scheme. Railways will launch ‘Clean my Coach’ service on Pan-India basis, in which a traveler can request cleaning of his or her coach or toilets on demand through SMS. It will also set up additional 30,000 bio-toilets in the next fiscal.
