Regional Transport Office - Assam

Assam state Transport department was incubated in the year of 1951. Earlier it was managed by the home department. Assam RTO is established with many objectives. Few of which are administration of the transport as per the Motor transportation of India. Others are controlling the pollution and ensuring the road safety. Its controlled by the commissioner of transport. It plays a very vital role in providing required documents to the vehicle owners.

Role of Assam RTO in Road Tax

Besides depreciation, there are other important criteria that are clubbed together to create the above slab. They are like the model, make, fuel type, engine capacity etc.

We cannot drive vehicles without payments of these road tax. Driving without a legal driving license or motor registration is also a punishable offense.

In order to follow RTO rules, we must have the mandatory papers as required. We may need to visit their offices time and again to get a few documents.

Tasks & Objectives of Assam RTO

Issuing Driving License

RTO is responsible for issuing a driving license to both two-wheelers and four-wheelers owners. It is also the concerned authority to approach in case driving license is lost or renewal.

Controlling Pollution

As per the state RTO, all vehicles have to adhere to the pollution norms. Pollution certificate is issued as per the guidelines of transport law. All vehicles need to have details of pollution. It is one of the mandatory document. Its a great initiative by the Transportation Authority of India.

Registration of Vehicle

For all the vehicles, registration details is a must. This is most important whenever we purchase a new two-wheeler or four-wheeler. It's even required when the vehicle is transferred or shifted to other states. In order to get this document, RTO is the sole entity.

Adherence to Motor Vehicles Act

There are many rules and laws that come under the Motor Vehicle Act. Road transportation authority of India is responsible for enforcing the same.

Road Tax collection

RTO of the state is primarily responsible for the applicable timely tax collection. Tax is levied as per the applicable law and slab.

Road Permits

All the commercial vehicles need to take permits for many reasons. It can be at times of moving from one city or city or many other times. RTO is responsible for regulating the same.
