It has been incorporated with dual bodies i.e Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 and Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.

Meghalaya RTO is solely responsible for the enactment of rules as enforced by concerned authorities. It is a versatile entity that performs multifold roles. On one hand it ensures adherence to traffic rules and regulations. Other hand performs basic yet mandatory functions of license issuing and vehicle registration etc. Some of the major tasks of Meghalaya RTO has been summarized below.

Though each and every function is equally important and mandatory. One of the most basic is Vehicle Registration. This document is must in all the vehicles. Motor owners can easily get vehicle registration by contacting the concerned RTO. The entire process has been elaborated below.

How To Get Your Vehicles Registered by Meghalaya RTO?

As soon we buy any Vehicle, its mandatory to get it registered. In order to do so we need to submit certain documents to the Meghalaya RTO office. After verification of our submitted documents and approval only we are given registration copy also called as RC. We may also need to make the required changes in registration at the time of purchase of a second-hand vehicle as well. The required documents need to be submitted within a week of vehicle possession.

These documents are as follows.

  1. ID Proof
  2. Address Proof
  3. Insurance Documents
  4. Form 20, it is easily available with the registered office of RTO
  5. Sales Certificate – Form 21, it has to be taken from the dealer from whom we have purchased the vehicle
  6. Form 22, it is related to Vehicle health and permission for road worthiness
  7. Pencil print of the Chasis number

All these documents need to be submitted to Meghalaya RTO as soon as possible before the deadline. We can always crosscheck the checklist as issued by RTO so that no paperwork is missed.

Once we submit the required documents than we can receive registration number within 7 to 10 working days. It can be early or late based on the verification process.
