  • Trip Delay - Suppose your scheduled departure or arrival consumes more than 24 hours of delay. Resultantly, you canceled the journey. So, the company will pay the sum insured for other travel & accommodation cost paid by you.
  • Trip Cancellation & Curtailment - If your trip has been canceled or made incomplete due to any of the mentioned exigencies, then travel and accommodation expenses are returned back.   • Hijack Daily Allowance - Suppose you are traveling in an aircraft on a day when high alert has been given. Unfortunately, your plane gets hijacked and your journey is disrupted for more than 12 hours. The insurer will pay the daily allowance expense. If the respite occurred due to change of route either because of fuel shortage, security reason or technical snag, the payment is not made.
  • Balance Period of Policy + 30 days - This benefit will work for the treatment taken in India within 30 days after coming back to India where the risk period is terminated.
  • Hospital Daily Allowance - In case the insured gets admitted to a hospital then daily cash is supplied to accomplish the treatment.
  • Total Loss of Checked-in Baggage - Loss of checked-in baggage whilst traveling overseas is also covered under HDFC Ergo Health Travel insurance. Under this condition, the insured will get complete amount for the articles/ items lost. A maximum of 10% of the sum insured for every item in the baggage. The overall amount paid for all the items in the bag will be equal to 50% of the sum insured.
  • Delay of Checked-in Baggage - There are situations during an overseas trip when you face delay in the checked-in baggage by a carrier. If the delay is for more than 12 hours and evidence is served to the insurer, the payment of the expenses incurred during the delay. Expense will include- purchase of essential medications, toiletries, or clothing.
  • Loss of Passport - In case of loss of passport, the HDFC Ergo Health will pay the expenses incurred on the reissue of duplicate or fresh passport. The payment is issued either in overseas or within 30 days after the insured has returned to India.
  • Financial Emergency Cash - A lumpsum payment is made to financially help the insured person to recover the loss of money through theft, dacoity or pilferage. The loss is considered for payment only when the theft has been intimated to foreign country cops. The report must be filed within 24 hours of the incident with written proof.
  • Personal Liability - This works when the insured due to his negligence causes harm to the third party. Consequently, a civil claim is raised against the insured for the harm done. Harm can be death or bodily injury or property damage. On informing the insurer, the claim is settled directly after the payment of the loss.

Personal Accident & Common Carrier - This cover becomes useful when the insured person confronts an accident in a foreign country. The lumpsum payment is made when death or permanent disability arrives within 90 days of the accident. In case of permanent disability, the payment would be like-

  • Self-inflicted injury, suicide or attempted suicide
  • Diseases transmitted sexually causing HIV/ AIDS.
  • Loss happening due to participation in naval, military or airforce operations, hang-gliding, rock climbing, racing, scuba diving, aviation, parachuting, or mountain climbing.
  • Doing anything against the law with criminal intent.
  • Medical problems due to the consumption of toxic or hallucinogenic substances.
  • War, warlike operations, civil war, invasion, foreign enemy attack, public defense, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, military or usurped acts, riot, chemical, radioactive or nuclear contamination are excluded.

  • For Hijack- Letter from airport authorities stating hijack incident and other media coverages.

  • For personal Accident- Death certificate, or disability certificate by attending doctor and original photos of the injured person.

How to Make a Travel Insurance Claim?

  • Notification of Claim: The claim must urgently be reported to HDFC Ergo Health through call or email or simply visiting the website. Render all the details of the incident to the insurer and fill the claim form within 7 days after an event has occurred.
  • Submission of Documents: Insurer will ask you to gather relevant documents for the claim. A list of documents is given above for consideration. Insurer may ask additional documents or the fulfillment of the claim.
  • Approval of Claim: Once the claim form and related documents are deposited with the insurer, the insurer will verify the proofs. The claim will get approved by the insurer oif he finds the evidence given is true to the cause.
  • Final Payment of Claim: Eventually the claim is carried forward for the payment after evaluating the cost incurred by the insurer. The payment is directly transferred to the bank account of the insured.
