LIC Plans for Girl Child in India
The best LIC plan for a girl child depends on when you want the money. LIC has no girls-only plan, so the same three child plans apply to your daughter: Jeevan Tarun (Plan 734), New Children’s Money Back Plan (Plan 732), and Amritbaal (Plan 774).
Choose the Money Back plan for college fees at age 18, Jeevan Tarun for payouts between ages 20 and 24, and Amritbaal for a fixed lump sum at maturity. This comparison covers eligibility, premium terms, maturity and death benefits, and guarantees so that you can match a plan to your daughter’s age, goals, and budget.

How Each Plan Works
Jeevan Tarun (Plan 734)
You pick one of four options of LIC Jeevan Tarun at purchase. Option 1 pays nothing until age 25. Options 2, 3, and 4 pay 5%, 10%, or 15% of the sum assured every year from ages 20 to 24, with the remaining amount paid at maturity. A bigger yearly payout means a smaller final amount.
For a five-year-old with a ₹2 lakh sum assured on Option 4, the premium is ₹13,338 per year for 15 years. The guaranteed payouts add up to ₹2 lakh, approximately what you pay in. At maturity, LIC's 4% illustration shows ₹70,000, and its 8% illustration shows ₹1,83,000, in addition to the ₹1.5 lakh in yearly payouts received between ages 20 and 24.
New Children's Money Back Plan (Plan 732)
The payouts are fixed. Your daughter gets 20% of the sum assured at 18, 20, and 22, and the remaining 40% plus any bonus (if declared) at 25. On a ₹5 lakh sum assured, that is ₹1 lakh at each of the first three milestones and ₹2 lakh plus bonus (if declared) at 25.
Premiums run for the whole policy term. Ditto estimates a return of roughly 1% to 2% per year under LIC's 4% illustration and 4% to 5% under the 8% one.
Amritbaal (Plan 774)
This plan, launched as Plan 874, is non-participating, so nothing depends on LIC's bonuses. Guaranteed additions of ₹80 per ₹1,000 of sum assured build up every policy year, and maturity pays the sum assured plus all accrued additions.
In LIC's illustration for a five-year-old, a ₹5 lakh sum assured over 20 years earns ₹8 lakh in additions and pays ₹13 lakh. That needed a single premium of ₹3,89,225 and works out to about 6.2% per year before tax. This 6.2% is an estimated annualised return based on that single-premium illustration, not a universal return for the plan. If you pay over 5 to 7 years instead of a single lump sum, the return is lower, roughly 5.5% to 5.6% in the same example. The catch is that no money comes before the maturity age you choose.
Guaranteed Benefits vs Bonuses
In the two participating plans, the fixed share of the sum assured is guaranteed. LIC declares simple reversionary bonuses and a final additional bonus, but these are not promised. Amritbaal’s additions are guaranteed, so its return is known on day one.
How to Choose a Plan for Your Daughter?
By her age
Entry closes at age 12, or 13 for Amritbaal. If she is under 8, risk cover starts after two years or on the policy anniversary after her 8th birthday, whichever is earlier. If she dies before that, LIC returns the premiums paid without interest. Starting late also costs more per year, because Jeevan Tarun premiums end at age 20, and the same sum assured is paid for in fewer years.
By education goal
- Undergraduate fees at 18: The Money Back plan, which pays first at age 18.
- Postgraduate study or early career: Jeevan Tarun, with payouts from ages 20 to 24.
- Marriage or a lump sum at 25: Amritbaal, with maturity set to that age, or Jeevan Tarun Option 1.
By budget
Premium depends on her age, the sum assured, and the chosen option; therefore, ask for LIC's benefit illustration instead of relying on online estimates. Choose a premium you can pay for the full term. If you stop paying premiums, the policy may become paid-up with reduced benefits, subject to its terms. For Jeevan Tarun Plan 734, revised rules allow surrender value after the first policy year, provided at least one full year's premium has been paid. The policy may also acquire paid-up status.
Tax relief usually requires the annual premium to stay within 10% of the sum assured. Maturity may also lose its exemption if premiums on traditional policies issued from April 2023 total more than ₹5 lakh per year. Also note that the Section 80C deduction is not available if you choose the new tax regime, and the Income-tax Act's section numbers changed from April 2026. Confirm the current rules with a tax professional.
By protection needs
These plans insure your daughter, but the cover is modest. They do not pay if you die. Buy term insurance on your own life first. Then consider the Premium Waiver Benefit rider, which waives future premiums if you die during the premium term. It must be added while at least five years of premiums remain, and it can cost up to 30% of the base premium.
Conclusion
The right LIC plan for your daughter depends on when you need the money: Money Back for fees at age 18, Jeevan Tarun for payouts between ages 20 and 24, and Amritbaal for a guaranteed lump sum at the end. These plans return about 4% to 6% per year, while Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana gives 8.2% right now, so treat them as cover plus disciplined saving, not a high-return investment.
