The Reliance Specially Abled health insurance plan caters to specially-abled individuals who need medical and financial support in an emergency. As per a report published by the Office of Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disability, almost 2.21% of the overall population in India, approximately 2.68 crore individuals, are registered under the PWD category.
Based on The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of India, 2016, and The Mental Healthcare Act of India, 2017, the Reliance Specially Abled health policy caters to the most vulnerable sections of our society. Reliance General Insurance Company Limited has curated this health insurance for Persons with Disability, those inflicted with HIV/AIDS, mental illness, etc.

Exclusions
- Investigation and evaluation
- Change of gender treatments
- Sterility/infertility treatment
- Rest cure, rehabilitation, respite care, etc.
- Obesity/weight control treatment
- Cosmetic/beauty/plastic surgery
- Adventurous sports/hazardous activities
- Refractive error
- Treatment/consequences due to alcoholism/drug abuse
- Dietary supplements
- Excluded providers
- Breach of law
- Specified conditions: 2 years for specific diseases. A continuous coverage of 24 months is mandatory after the date of inception of the first policy.
- Pre-existing conditions (PEDs): 24 months for pre-existing disability / 48 months for all PEDs other than HIV/AIDS and Disability.
Specifications of Reliance Specially Abled Health Policy
The Reliance Specially Abled health insurance covers several conditions for those who are physically unprivileged. Here is a list of what's covered within the policy:
In-patient Treatment
- Room rent/nursing/boarding: 1% of the Sum Insured (SI).
- ICU/ICCU: 2% of the SI is covered.
Pre-hospitalization
Covered for 30 days before hospitalization, available for AYUSH, modern, and in-patient treatments. Applicable only through reimbursement claims.
Post-hospitalization
Covered for 60 days after getting discharged from hospitalization, available for AYUSH Treatment, modern, and in-patient treatments. Applicable only through reimbursement claims.
Cataract
Covered on a sub-limit basis as per the opted sum insured, up to a maximum of INR 40,000 per eye in a policy year.
Daycare Procedures
All daycare procedures are covered as per the terms and conditions mentioned in the policy documents.
AYUSH Treatment
The treatment expenses for in-patient treatment of alternative systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (AYUSH) are covered up to 50% of the sum insured.
Modern Treatment
Based on in-patient treatments and daycare procedures, modern treatments are covered up to 50% of the sum insured.
Ambulance
Ground ambulance facility is available up to a maximum of INR 2,000 per hospitalization event.
