Ladli Laxmi Yojana is a financial assistance plan designed specifically for girl children in Madhya Pradesh by the state government. The plan was launched in May 2007. This is a child insurance plan launched for girl children who belong to low-income families and cannot afford quality education or marriage expenses.

The Ladli Laxmi Yojana was launched by then Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chauhan. It is currently functional in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Goa, and Chhattisgarh. The scheme benefits all girl children born after January 1, 2006, who fall under the non-tax-paying bracket and are female orphans.

Eligibility Criteria for Ladli Laxmi Yojana

To avail of the Ladli Laxmi Yojana scheme, certain eligibility criteria have been set up by the government:

• The girl child should be born on or after January 1, 2006.
• Families who wish to avail of the scheme must ensure that their girl child is registered in the local Anganwadi center.
• The parents of the girl child should be natives of Madhya Pradesh, or natives of the state where they are applying for the given scheme.
• Families with two or fewer children are eligible for the scheme. Family planning must be adopted after the birth of a second child.
• Under the Ladli Laxmi Yojana scheme, the girl child born from the first delivery will be given benefits without family planning. However, it is necessary for the mother/father to adopt family planning in order to avail the benefit for the girl child born from the second delivery.

Special Eligibility Conditions for Ladli Laxmi Yojana

There are certain special conditions applicable to avail of Ladli Laxmi Yojana, explained below:

• In case of the demise of one parent (either mother or father) in a family with two girl children, registration can be done until the girl child is 5 years old.
• In the case of the birth of three girl children in the first delivery, Ladli Laxmi Yojana will be applicable for all three girl children.
• Girls born to female inmates in a prison are also eligible for Ladli Laxmi Yojana.
• The benefit of Ladli Laxmi Yojana is applicable to a girl child born to a rape victim.

Benefits of Ladli Laxmi Yojana

There are multiple benefits associated with Ladli Laxmi Yojana, as it offers a scope for a brighter future for girl children:

• Under this scheme, the girl child receives an Assurance Certificate of INR 1,18,000, which is issued by the government in the name of the girl child.
• INR 2,000 is offered to the girl child covered under the scheme upon her admission to Class 6.
• INR 4,000 is offered to the girl child covered under the scheme upon her admission to Class 9.
• INR 6,000 is offered to the girl child covered under the scheme upon her admission to Class 11.
• INR 6,000 is offered to the girl child covered under the scheme upon her admission to Class 12.
• Under the Ladli Laxmi Yojana, girl children are provided with an incentive amount of INR 25,000 in two equal installments in the first and last year of the course after taking admission in any graduate course.
• The tuition fee for higher education will be borne by the government.
• The final payment of INR 1 Lac will be done upon completion of 21 years of age of the girl child.

Exclusions of Ladli Laxmi Yojana

• In case the girl child is married before the legal age of 18 years, the scheme will not be applicable.
• In case family planning options are not opted by parents after the birth of the second child, the scheme will not be applicable.
