Marketed and manufactured by Suzuki via its subsidiary Maruti Suzuki, WagonR was launched primarily for the Indian Market. This city car is being produced since 1999 and has undergone several upgrades. The WagonR built in India is also exported to its neighbouring countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan. The 5-door hatchback has a front-engine layout. The third generation of Wagon R was launched after 8 years of the second generation, on the 23rd of January, 2019. It shares its ‘HEARTECT' platform with the Suzuki Ignis along with some other distant models such as Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Maruti Suzuki Swift. Today, this city car competes against Hyundai Santro, Datsun Go and Tata Tiago.
The Maruti Suzuki WagonR has two engine options – K10BE 1.0-litre petrol engine and K12M 1.2 litre petrol engine. The former engine variant provides a maximum power of 67bhp and maximum torque of 90Nm, and the latter offers a maximum power of 82bhp and peak torque of 113Nm. Furthermore, the engine displacement provided by K10BE variant is 988cc and 1197cc by that of K12M variant.
A forward wheel drive, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR comes with both manual and semi-automatic transmission paired with a 5-speed gearbox.
