This policy is available for all those in the age group of 18 to 65. It is an individual policy issued based on sum insured basis only. One person can take only one policy. Dependent children in the age group of 3 months to 25 years can be covered with one parent under this policy.

  • The policy provides a lump sum payment as a benefit to the policyholder who has contracted Coronavirus COVID-19 and has had to undergo hospitalization.
  • There is a waiting period for the policy, which is 16 days from the commencement date of the policy.
  • There is no medical screening or testing requirement for applicants.
  • A free look period is available from the company, whereby people can take this product and have a free look for a period of 15 days. During this period, they can go through the policy terms and conditions. If for any reason, they are not satisfied, they can return the policy and get a refund. The refund is given subject to the insurer deducting any charges spent for medical examination of the insured person or stamp duty fee. If the risk has already commenced, then an amount proportionate to the number of days risk cover extended shall be deducted before refund. The refund is applicable only if no claim has been made. Refunds are applicable only for the purchase of the policy and not for renewal.
  • Tax benefit under Section 80 D of Income Tax Act is available for premium paid for obtaining this policy.

What Is Included/Excluded In This Plan?


The policy includes treatment for infection by Novel Coronavirus (nCOV) (COVID-19) and subsequent hospitalization. The policy covers the insured person and one dependent child for a period of one year.


The following are exclusions of the policy and payments will not be made for any of the following:

  1. Claims for the disease contracted prior to the commencement of the policy shall not be admissible.
  2. If the policyholder has travelled outside India during the policy period, claims are not admissible.
  3. For a claim to be made, hospitalization is required.
  4. Claims for any other illness other than COVID-19 will not be entertained.

Star Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Policy Claim Procedure

Claims against the policy can be made by the insured person or anyone else on his/her behalf by following the claims procedure.

  • The claim form needs to be filled in and submitted online or by mail. All forms needed can be downloaded from the website of Star Health.
  • The claim must be submitted within 15 days of the notification of the claim.
  • The claim form must be accompanied by a diagnostic report confirming that the insured person was infected with Coronavirus COVID-19. Reports given by a government-authorized testing centre will only be accepted.
  • Any other medical documents required needs to be submitted.
  • A copy of Aadhar card or Govt. issued ID card needs to be submitted.
  • Once the form is received, it will be processed and on approval, the lump sum amount paid.


1. If I make a claim under the policy and get reimbursed and once more contract the disease, can I make a second claim?

No, the policy ceases to operate either once a claim is settled or on completion of one year.

2. The policy coverage is not available for someone 17 years old, what to do in this case?

This is not a problem since a child can be covered under this policy as a dependent along with the parent. Children, up to 25 years of age can be covered under the policy.

3. How can I renew the policy on completion of the policy period?

At present, the policy duration is 1 year and since it is a pilot product, renewal is allowed until the product is offered.

4. Is it possible to cancel the policy?

Yes, cancellation is possible anytime. If the policy is cancelled before 3 months, 15% premium can be refunded. If the policy is cancelled after 3 months, no refund may be given.
